Fraud Prevention Tips

If something sounds too good to be true; it probably is!

Be alert and aware!

Some scenarios to be alert to are:

  • You receive a phone call from someone claiming to be from the Social Security Department asking you to verify information over the phone.  Hang up and call the Social Security Department yourself.
  • If you get an email asking for personal information / account information / or anything, do not click on any link that is provided.  Instead call that company directly and verify that they truly did want the information the email was requesting.
  • You are notified that you won a prize drawing, but you need to send a gift card to a certain individual in order to claim your prize. Do Not Do It! This is a scam.
  • You receive notification that a family member / loved one is in jail and you need to send them money ASAP to help them out. Do Not Do It! This is a scam.  Instead, hang up the phone and then call that family member.
